Probable maximum tropical cyclone parameters for east and west coast of India

چکیده

Storm surge simulation models require certain parameters for evaluating the worst possible event that could occur at a site with respect to return period. The most significant probable maximum tropical cyclone are pressure deficiency centre (?P) and wind speed (Vmax) during cyclone. In this study, would yield storm along Indian coasts of Arabian Sea Bay Bengal estimated. Datasets created based on various existing data archives each basin. datasets subjected extreme value analysis determining ?P Vmax parameters. fitted probability distributions (Gumbel, Fréchet, Weibull Log-normal) whose (scale, shape, location parameters) estimated using graphical (least square fit) numerical (order statistics approach) methods. A mean recurrence interval 1000 10,000 years is considered strategic structures. best fit distribution its obtained goodness criteria. resulting compared theoretical parameter values basin revised till an optimal set reached. shows represented by distribution. useful input model determine design basis flood level coastal sites.

Polychaete Community of a Marine Protected Area along the West Coast of India—Prior and Post the Tropical Cyclone, Phyan

Tropical cyclones are extreme random meteorological events that can have profound implications to coastal biodiversities. Given that the frequency, intensity and duration of these events are poised to increase due to the global climate change, understanding the ecological impacts of such erratic occurrences becomes imperative to devise better management strategies. The eventful passage of the t...

Tropical Cyclone Intensity Change before U.S. Gulf Coast Landfall

Tropical cyclone intensity change remains a forecasting challenge with important implications for such vulnerable areas as the U.S. coast along the Gulf of Mexico. Analysis of 1979–2008 Gulf tropical cyclones during their final two days before U.S. landfall identifies patterns of behavior that are of interest to operational forecasters and researchers. Tropical storms and depressions strengthen...

Mangrove vegetation and community structure of brachyuran crabs as ecological indicators of Pondicherry coast, South east coast of India

Baseline ecological studies of Pondicherry mangroves are important for monitoring, management and conservation of mangrove ecosystems. A brachyuran crab faunal assemblage at four stations of Pondicherry mangroves is described and monthly samplings were made during September 2008 – August 2009. Totally 22 species of brachyuran crabs belonging to 12 genera and 5 families were recorded crabs bel...
